Farmers Daughter recently embarked on a 9 show 10 day tour of the interior of B.C. The cast consisted of Robin (Shaker) MacQuarrie, guitar and mandolin, Shane Hendrickson on upright, acoustic, and electric bass, Dale Wallace on keyboards, Ron Briggs on drums, percussion, and vaudeville stage antics, and Myself on electric, acoustic guitars and lap steel. Of course backing Shauna Rae, Angela, and Jake. And the Crew consisted of Corita Sword, on front of house sound, John Riley on monitor mix, (and I think he had to dance in one show too? not sure) Rick McKenzie and Lawnie Samograd were bus drivers and merchandise, and Delanne Ried, publicist/road manager.
When asking anyone involved, the general consensus, is that it was a great, successful tour, although the following obstacles occurred during the time period of this tour.
Jake twisted her ankle I got a shard of glass shoved between my nail, and finger. The tour bus broke down, stranded the band for several hours in the mountains in the middle of no where on a show day (requiring $12,000.00 worth of repairs)- several photo radar speeding tickets are probably on their way, (we'll know soon enough)
One of the rental vans actually got stopped, luckily with just a warning. It turns out the officer had tickets for the show! (This is all still the same day the bus broke down)- A few days later Shane (bass player) either got food poisoning, or a sudden 12 hour intense flu bug. The bus could be seen pulled over on the side of the highway for Shane to, " paint the highway".
Dale and Shane both were stranded at the airport one day, (on a show day) due to aircraft damage from what I understand, and just made the show, literally walked on stage, from getting out of the car from the airport. Another time three members of the band, Dale, Shane, and Ron, had to circle the runway in Victoria, while their landing gear wouldn't drop and lock properly, and watch emergency crews line the runway awaiting their approach. Also the car that was used to promote the tour, (distributing posters, and visiting venues in advance) had an over due video in it the whole 2 weeks, upon attempting to return the video, the car had a confrontation with a lamp post, and from the looks of the car, the lamp post got the better deal out of the incident, (heavy pun intended on inci-DENT).That's allot of stuff to go wrong in 10 days, yet everyone involved, generally kept a smile on their face, and did a great show, every night. Here's some photo's of that journey, I'll soon be out for more than 25 days on another run with The Daughters, doing the Huron Carole, and a few other headline shows, I hope it runs just a tad smoother !
I'll see you out on the Huron Carole, we're hitting every major city coast to coast, so come out to the show and say hi !
